For a while, I kept seeing this young person on the street corners asking for spare change. I think they captivated me because they represent a story that is almost invisible in this country. Of the homeless youth population, a disproportionate number (20% - 40%) are LGBT. I was struck by the vulnerability and sweetness of them, who was friendly and grateful as I handed them my dollar, and who, typically, could have endured more trauma than most at an early age. This is not an exact likeness, but a memory.
